Apple vs Android

I find myself in an interesting position within my school. I used to be a full on Apple fanboy with iPhone after iPhone and iPad after iPad. Then I felt like Apple were going a bit stale so I ventured to the world of Android.

I bought a Nexus 7 and really liked it though it has never replaced my iPad. Then I replaced my iPhone 4S with  Nexus 4. A good friend had talked about the joys of Android and its customisability with widgets and what not. How true. Whenever I pick up an iPhone now I miss my widgets for Google Now and the weather and most importantly Google Keep.
So here is the dilemma. I'm often asked whether I'd recommend an iPad or an Android tablet. This becomes an even more important question in education. Apples infamous closed OS provides schools with a lot of control. Androids open OS provides schools with a lot more freedom to create apps whereas iOS provides, potentially, more creative apps. This is an interesting point. How can there be more creative apps on a closed platform? Well its because everyone knows what you get with an iPad. Its screen size is the same and then the iPad mini has the same resolution and so can instantly use all of iPads apps. Android tablets come in almost literally any size and shape and as such designers need to change their coding as needed which adds time. Android tablet apps are improving but are nowhere near their iPad equivalents.
So what would I choose? Probably iPads. Why? They are uniform and 'everyone' knows them.
Let's see what the future holds for education!
On my old blog I spoke about using my iPad in the classroom. Maybe I'll update that on this new blog.
Desire to understand.
